Dr Andrew Hudson, our Managing Director, will be presenting at the FDRA Shoe Sustainability Summit 2023 on 19 September 2023 at 11.05am. The title of the presentation is: How to use a new Footwear Impact tool to strategically target sustainability efforts using a case study of 3 different shoe styles. Eurofins | BLC Footwear Impact Calculator based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach, allows you to profile footwear and understand potential impacts from individual materials and components, manufacturing and retail locations, retail channels and level of customer use (wear). This cost-effective and simple-to-use tool allows assessments to be made in a matter of minutes allowing you to identify key sustainability improvement target areas and potential hotspots. Andrew will present insights into LCA’s and PEFCR and assessments of what the industry is doing to measure environmental impacts of its wide variety of footwear styles that contain a large number of components and different materials. Primary and secondary data comparisons will be made and identify situations when each assessment type can be used. He will also present practical approaches for organisations to make rapid and low-cost environmental impact assessments based on LCA principles.
