Manufacturers, brands and retailers are expected to conduct a range of chemical testing to ensure products entering the market place are fit for purpose and compliant with the relevant legislation. Failure to comply can potentially cause damage to brand reputation through products not being fit for sale as well as dissatisfied customers, rejection of stock and fines, all of which can have cost implications for your business.

REACH Testing Services

Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances (REACH) regulation (EC)1907/2006 is a European regulation on chemicals and their use. REACH calls for the progressive substitution of the most dangerous chemicals when suitable alternatives have been identified.

All products supplied within Europe must be compliant with REACH including the presence of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), and compliance to Annex XVII requirements.

Eurofins | BLC can assist with REACH testing and support that may be required. Eurofins | BLC also offers Annex XVII testing to identify any restricted substances and SVHC testing and screening under REACH.

CPSIA Testing Services

The CPSIA sets restrictions for the amount of lead, phthalates and flame retardants in consumer products designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger, as well as setting out requirements for flammability testing.

These regulations are legislative and testing of products is mandatory. This safety standard has been widely adopted voluntarily to control the amount of lead in all products sold within the USA.

Eurofins | BLC is a CPSC accredited laboratory (CPSC 1049) and offers lead testing and phthalates testing.

China GB Standards Testing

Any brand supplying leather product into China needs to demonstrate compliance to GB standards testing for formaldehyde and azo dyes.

If you are selling leather products in China, these standards are mandatory and currently can only be conducted by a Chinese government laboratory. It is important to note, that brands in breach of the GB standards regulation may have their products seized from stores.

Eurofins | BLC have a partnership with a Chinese laboratory and can provide GB standards testing.

Toy Safety Directive (EN71-3) Testing

EN71 has been widely adopted within Europe as a general product safety standard for heavy metals and toxic elements in consumer products. Chemical testing is required under BS EN71 in order to ensure compliance with part 3.

EN71-3 is a migratory test, evaluating the propensity of metals to leach from products and cause toxicity hazards, particularly relating to exposure through sucking and mouthing of items.

California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) Testing

Eurofins | BLC provide a product risk assessment and targeted chemical testing service for Prop 65.
