We would like to invite brands who use animal-based fibres such as cashmere, wool and leather to join us online for the launch of the Rangeland Stewardship Council on Thursday 12th January.
- Rangelands cover half of the world’s land surface supporting livelihoods and diverse habitat
- Rangelands are one of the most effective carbon sinks on the planet
- There is pressure on apparel brands to better manage the sourcing of animal derived fibers
- Improved stewardship will impact positively on many animal derived supply chains
At this session on 12th January we will work to define:
- What we want the Rangeland Stewardship Council to achieve
- What do brands and retailers want to achieve in this space
- The direction the Rangeland Stewardship Council will take to produce a recognised standard to benefit rangeland herders

Background to the Rangeland Stewardship Council
The group is looking to connect brands who source animal derived materials and products from rangeland sources, with the herder communities who produce those products. The objective is to utilise the expertise that exist within the herder communities to deliver on the sustainability requirements of the sourcing brands to create genuine examples of carbon positive sourcing while remaining culturally sensitive to the sourcing communities. The Rangeland Stewardship Council is already well connected with the herder communities and represents a genuine example of traceability to raw material in a notoriously challenging area.
As a starting point we are looking to develop a recognised standard alongside agreed definitions of ‘rangeland sourcing’ and ‘regenerative farming’.
This is a free webinar and an opportunity for brands and retailers to understand the objectives of the Rangeland Stewardship Council and also contribute to the direction of the group. If you represent a brand or retailer, use animal derived materials in your products, and are looking for genuine sustainable solutions and connections to the communities that produce the raw materials for your products this event is ideal for you.
