The Importance of RSL Testing
Chemical compliance, and the world of RSL testing standards, is a fiercely energetic topic within the fashion and apparel industries. As the pressure regarding restricted chemicals develops, the demand for brands to be able to provide transparency on how chemicals are managed within their supply chain becomes increasingly more important.
What is RSL Testing?
A restricted substance list (RSL) is an integral part of most brands’ chemical management system; in today’s evolving regulatory landscape it is virtually impossible – and in many cases unacceptable - for a brand to function without one.
In its simplest form, a restricted substance list is a list of chemicals that must not be present in a finished article or material above certain specified limits, and RSL testing enables a brand and its supply chain to monitor and demonstrate compliance to these limits.
RSL’s remain extremely important tools for brands and retailers to ensure that they are providing a compliant product that is fit for the intended user, and they make an important commitment to stakeholders around their responsibility to consumer safety. Such commitments around restricted chemicals remain fundamental to product safety management and are extremely important to guard against potential consumer safety issues and brand integrity.
