The development of end-of-waste criteria for plastic waste
The European Commission has decided to prioritise the development of end-of-waste criteria for plastic and textiles. Work on the criteria for plastic has already begun with the finalisation of the technical assessment expected by 2024. The work on end-of-waste criteria for textile waste will commence in 2023. Definitions of Plastics and Textiles are as follows:
- Plastics (polyethylene terephthalate recovered/recycled, mixed plastics waste recovered/recycled, polypropylene plastic recovered/recycled from plastic waste between others).
- Textiles (cellulosic fibres recovered/recycled and mixed fibres recovered/recycled from textile waste between others
Eurofins | BLC offers disintegration and biodegradability testing to determine how well your materials will degrade during an accelerated disintegration test. We offer ecotox testing on the disintegration substrate to determine whether any hazardous chemistry is released during the disintegration process and have a plant response test to understand whether the disintegration can actually enrich the substrate the material degrades into. If you can test and prove your materials will biodegrade you can claim a truly circular economy waste management process. For more information on Eurofins | BLC services click here
