Sustainability in the Leather Supply Chain Conference 2019 Sessions Announced
The theme for this year’s Sustainability in the Leather Supply Chain Conference hosted in Hong Kong on 14th March is Emerging Risks and how these are managed.
The event is sponsored by Silvateam, Stahl and Conseil National du Cuir, and will focus on two topical areas: Challenges to chemical management and available tools; and changing consumer perceptions and how they are shaping responses for the leather industry.
Confirmed Speakers
Conference organisers Eurofins | BLC and APLF are delighted to confirm the following industry speakers, representing organisations from across the leather value chain:

Session 1 - Sponsored by Silvateam
The event will start with a comprehensive look at the sustainability challenges of managing and delivering good chemistry throughout the leather manufacturing supply chain.
Session Sponsor Silvateam will discuss the production of tanning extracts and the antibacterial properties of veg tanned leathers. They will articulate how they are using vegetable tannins to promote sustainable chemistry in the industry.
ZDHC will discuss how upstream chemical management, chemistry specification, engagement with chemical suppliers and co-ordination with brands can lead to improved chemical practice.
Delegates will hear how AQM are using established environmental audits to identify chemical management and effluent treatment process differences across different geographical areas of the leather making industry.
The AFIRM Group will provide an analysis of current industry trends they are observing in their work to reduce the use and impact of harmful chemistry.

Session 2 - Sponsored by Stahl
The second session of the event will focus on consumer perceptions of leather and how these are influencing and changing the direction of the industry.
Session Sponsor Stahl will expand on their findings from a study they have completed with Generation Z graduates looking at their perceptions of leather as a material, explaining how the chemical industry and the leather industry is responding.
Australian brand Bellroy will discuss how they are a brand that has positively chosen to use leather due to its aesthetic and longevity qualities, and how they are communicating these ideas to their customers.
The session will also include a discussion led by fashion industry expert Jayne Estève Curé to understand changing consumer perceptions and buying habits. Topics will include; what is motivating consumers (especially younger consumers) in their purchasing choices, what are the trends the industry is starting to observe and how may brands who use leather respond. What are the messages that consumers are hearing, what are the communication channels influencing decisions and what is the impact of sustainable and ethical issues on purchasing choices?
Join representatives from across the leather value chain to discuss these prominent emerging risks for the industry.
