Six Proposed SVHCs to be Added to the Candidate List under REACH Regulation
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published proposals for six Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) to be added to the Candidate List. The six proposed SVHCs include several that are not intentionally used and can be found either in the raw material itself or as a by-product from the manufacturing process caused breakdown of materials. The full Candidate List can be viewed here.

Not intentionally used. Breakdown product and impurity of various chemicals and products firefighting foams, surfactants, dyes and inks, paints and cosmetics.
Special coatings of high-precision optics which might contain also PFHxA are used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Precursors of PFHxA (e.g. 6:2 FTOH) are used to impart water-, oil- and dirt-resistant properties to textiles, leather and paper.

SVHC Testing and Screening at Eurofins | BLC
Eurofins | BLC can test for SVHCs in individual articles including finished products, materials and components for REACH compliance against the current list of SVHCs, which are identified in the Candidate List of substances of very high concern for Authorisation.
Consumer products, materials and components undergo screening to establish whether any of the listed SVHCs are present above 0.1% (1000ppm).
Within SVHC testing and screening, Eurofins | BLC offer:
- Product risk assessment to determine appropriate testing for compliance
- Composite testing
Eurofins | BLC also offer SVHC and REACH compliance support for Eurofins | BLC Members which consists of access to online toolkits, product and chemical specification guidance and advanced support on technical queries by our experienced chemical and regulatory experts.
