Leather Finishing Chemical NMP Added to REACH Regulation
NMP (EC 212-828-1, CAS 872-50-4)
The substance 1-methyl-pyrrolidone which is more commonly known as NMP, has been added to Annex XVII of REACH regulation with immediate effect, and is therefore now classified as a restricted substance. NMP is a reprotoxin which can have potentially harmful effects for workers when exposed.
NMP may be used in the application of finishes to leather due to its strong adhesive properties and may also be used in the manufacture of synthetic materials.
