Jewellery and Metal Accessories are being Withdrawn from Market
Do you manufacture or sell jewellery and/or metal accessory products? If so, you should be aware of the recent events relating to cadmium and lead being identified in the products.
An increasing number of jewellery and metal accessory products have been withdrawn from the market and information has been disseminated as part of the Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX). Jewellery containing as much as 95% cadmium and 8.4% lead have been included in the report.
This highlights the need for testing and knowledge of the materials of which your products are being made from.
Cadmium is a restricted metal; as well as being a known carcinogen, it can also cause irreversible human health damage. Similarly, lead accumulates within the body and prolonged exposure is detrimental to human health.
