Fashion leaders - there is still time to ensure zero deforestation in your supply chain
In the landmark agreement made at COP26 more than 140 world leaders committed to end and reverse deforestation by 2030. £14bn ($19bn) of public and private funds were pledged to support this commitment. To achieve targets of zero deforestation, organisations that use materials which have a deforestation risk must understand their supply chains.
The footwear and apparel sectors have been linked with deforestation through the sourcing of raw materials. Material supply chains are often global and complex. Most footwear and apparel brands can trace their materials back to the manufacturer, but many do not have full visibility to the raw material, where the challenge of deforestation is greatest.
Traceability and transparency are vital to ensure that zero deforestation targets are met and that environmental claims are reliable and can be substantiated. Eurofins | BLC’s Supply Chain Mapping tool can support brands in achieving traceability of their material supply chains.
The first step to effectively manage the challenge of deforestation in your supply chain is to map and understand where your material comes from. The Eurofins | BLC software tools can be used to identify and quantify the risk of sourcing from areas of deforestation. The tool can be used to map leather, textiles, rubber, cotton, plastics, metal, wood and pigments.
Be confident that you have supply chain transparency and that you can deliver on your commitments to zero deforestation.
