Eurofins | BLC Invests Over £500,000 in Analytical Laboratory Equipment to Support Chemical Testing
Eurofins | BLC is globally renowned for its technical expertise and leading analytical capabilities in the leather and materials supply chain. The advanced technical ability of staff and laboratory equipment provides customers with a fast, accurate and reliable service, covering a varied scope, including:
Expanding Laboratory Capacity through Investment
Recently, Eurofins | BLC has invested over £500,000 in laboratory equipment to add to our existing analytical instrumentation to increase the scope and capacity of services offered to customers. This investment helps to maintain Eurofins|BLC at the forefront of restricted substance analysis (RSL/MRSL) in chemical formulations, materials and finished products.
About the Analytical Laboratory Equipment
Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry Triple Quadrupole (LCMS QQQ)
LCMS is an effective technique for high resolution analysis of non-volatile organic analytes such as alkyl phenol ethoxylates and perflourinated chemicals (PFC’s). When optimised it can measure to extremely low detection limits, routinely parts per billion and in some cases parts per trillion.
Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry Triple Quadruple (GCMS QQQ)
The work-horse of the analytical laboratory, gas chromatography provides an extensive range of analytical processes to measure organic analytes and volatile chemistry (VOC’s). The triple quadrupole element increases sensitivity allowing for better resolution and lower detection limits. Examples of analyses include chlorinated phenols and phthalates.
Gas Chromatography – Electron Capture Detector (GCECD)
This is a highly specialised form of detection for gas chromatography which enables the analysis of halogenated organic chemicals. Chemicals containing halogens such as fluorine, chlorine and bromine are increasingly the focus of global regulation. Examples of regulated chemicals would include brominated flame retardants and short chain chlorinated paraffins.
Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS).
Used exclusively for the analysis of inorganic chemicals, ICP provides excellent resolution of highly regulated metals such as lead, cadmium and nickel testing and for specific regulatory testing such as EN71-3.
