BLC Welcomes Peter Hughes, BLC's New Sustainability Lead

BLC Welcomes Peter Hughes, BLC's New Sustainability Lead

BLC is delighted to welcome Peter Hughes who has recently joined BLC to head up the Sustainability Team and deliver on the sustainability objectives of the BLC client base.

Peter is looking to expand BLC's supply chain mapping service which supports brands and retailers by improving traceability of materials and product within the leather supply chain. This also helps brands and retailers with product, material and chemical compliance to international legislation, and key UK legislative requirements such as the Modern Slavery Act.

Peter advises that ‘the more a client understands their supply chain, the better prepared they will be for future business critical decisions, and the better protected their business will be from supply chain risks’.

Peter will be developing the sustainability services offered by BLC and expanding sustainability training and conference opportunities, specialist communication support and traceability systems. There will be the opportunity to develop bespoke projects for clients; for example, looking into recycling finished leather product.

Peter’s Professional Background

Peter has ten years of experience working in the field of sustainable development with private, public and third sector clients.

Peter has previously worked in the food industry specialising in sustainability issues and supply chain mapping of the 'food to go' sector, concentrating on improving environmental and ethical performance. He has also recently been working with the public sector looking to utilise existing building stock to generate power and use energy more efficiently.

Prior to this, Peter has worked in the housing sector on new development designs to encourage healthy and sustainable lifestyles and worked on the ground with NGO's based in Uganda to expand social development work in the north of the country.
