New Mobile App to Identify SVHCs in Products
A new chemical information app is currently being tested which can advise consumers of whether any SVHCs are present in their product above 0.1%. Developed by the Swedish Chemical Agency KEMI, the app will act as a database which can be accessed remotely, providing up to date chemical compliance information. If a product is not present on the app, the manufacturer will receive an email requesting the relevant information which must be responded to within 45 days. This is a legal requirement under REACH regulation, covering all consumer products within the European Union.
This app, and others like it, are signs that the European consumer is becoming more aware of chemical compliance within products. Therefore, retailers and manufacturers need to ensure their products are compliant and be ready to provide responses to SVHC requests within their products.
