Leather Life Cycle Assessment (Leather LCA)
The question, ‘what is the cleanest, greenest or environmentally sustainable tannage type?’ is one that is often asked. Without enough understanding, it is repeatedly assumed that leather tanned with vegetable extracts must always be better, but the reality can be quite different.
So to better understand the impacts of the different tannage types, Eurofins | BLC commissioned the Leather LCA by an independent company, which compares chrome, aldehyde and vegetable tanned leathers.
The Leather LCA is a detailed life cycle analysis of three tanning systems; vegetable, chrome and aldehyde (wet white) using the ISO14040 standard.
How can the Leather LCA benefit your tanning process?
The details of the leather LCA are only available to Members, so if you're a Eurofins | BLC Member, contact us today for further information.

Circular economy risk
Many brands or manufacturers want to recycle materials to provide efficiencies, reduce waste and costs or just to tell a positive story. However, it becomes challenging if you dont know the origin and provenance of the materials you are recycling.
Many recycled products like plastics, textile or metals could contain chemical contaminants that might make them both hazardous and or illegal to sell.
Eurofins | BLC can provide consulting support to investigate and risk assess these types of scenarios.
