Leather Working Group (LWG) Administrator

BLC Leather Technology Centre is a boutique testing, technology and consulting business that specialises in leather, leather product and related material sourcing support.  Based in Northampton, BLC works with major brands and blue chip companies around the world. 
 
We have a vacancy for a Leather Working Group Administrator. This person will assist the LWG Project Manager with the day to day administration of an international working group that involves blue chip brands, their suppliers and other technical support companies.  The successful candidate will also support on existing projects researching topics and preparing reports and articles. 
 
This role will involve working with senior people within both BLC and the working group member companies.  Tasks will include: routine membership administration; dealing with the working group enquiries; answering new business enquiries; maintaining records; content management of website; online surveys and questionnaires; preparation of reports and certificates and much more. 
 
To this end, BLC are seeking a degree educated (or equivalent standard) candidate with at least 4 years practical project administration experience. An interest in the environment would be advantageous.

Furniture Durability Testing Technician

BLC is the world leader in the specification testing of leather and leather products, and is now expanding its range of services into the testing of furniture seating for the major brands.  This new and specialized business area has created an opening for an engineer who will commission, manage and routinely operate the various custom-designed pneumatic rigs that are currently being manufactured for installation into our new furniture durability testing laboratory.

 

The successful candidate will have a Diploma or Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, with the ability to:

 

  1. Authoritatively interpret and follow the detailed technical requirements and engineering terminology of BS EN 1728 (Furniture — Seating — Test methods for the determination of strength and durability) and BS EN 16139 (Furniture — Strength, durability and safety — Requirements for non-domestic seating)

 

  1. Determine the full range of test methods that are applicable to each individual chair and sofa received for testing, according to the specific design of the unit in relation to the requirements laid down by the published specification

 

  1. Understand the mathematical, mechanical, and safety principles that apply to the various tests

 

  1. Accurately position the different types of furniture into the different test rigs so that the various tests are performed reproducibly and reliably

 

  1. Use the programmable logic controller (PLC) and human machine interface (HMI) software that operates the machinery

 

  1. Interpret the test data and prepare the client reports

 

  1. Explain the test methods and results to individual clients when necessary

 

  1. Demonstrate the machinery and its operation to existing and prospective clients, and during on-site customer training course

 

  1. Achieve and maintain UKAS accreditation for each test.
