Tip 1 - Finding variations on a word
- solvent also find "solvents"
- chrom finds chrome, chromium, chromate, chromic, etc
Tip 2 - Improving the search
Use near, and, or, and and not to combine words in your search:
- solvent near reduction ranks articles according to the proximity of the words so articles that mention "solvent reduction" are more prominent than articles where the two words occur further apart
- solvent and reduction finds the same articles but without ranking by proximity of the words
- solvent or reduction lists articles that mention either word
- solvent and not reduction finds articles containing "solvent" but excludes articles containing "reduction"
- "solvent reduction" finds that exact expression, including variants such as "solvent reductions"
Tip 3 - Use of alternative words
Think of alternative words or spellings that might be used:
- waterproof or water-proof or water resist
- mold or mould
- chrome or chromium or chromic oxide
Tip 4 - Advanced searching using brackets
Combine a number of search steps together by using brackets:
- (chrome or chromium or chromic oxide) and ageing
- (mold or mould) and (antimould or antimold or fungicide)
