Approximately 40 delegates attended the FDRA PSE workshop in Huntingdon Beach California where there were a number of presentations given on restricted substance legislation, safety and the environment within the footwear supply chain.
Commissioner Anne Northup from the Consumer Product Safety Commission gave a presentation focussed on legislation around lead in paint, Phthalates and potential legislation around Cadmium and the need for appropriate diligence within the supply chain.
This was followed by a presentation by David Callet who highlighted the complexity of complying with CPSC, California Proposition 65 and Washington State legislation.
Dr Victoria Addy of BLC gave the delegates an update on legislation from Europe covering restricted substances management and the complex REACH legislation.
Adam Hughes also gave a presentation on the Leather Working Group initiative which highlighted improvements in restricted substance management for those involved as well as the wider benefits of reduced costs and improved environmental stewardship.
