Based on an assessment of the water and energy consumption of the tannery:
Tanneries that have undergone an audit against the LWG environmental auditing protocol have shown a significant reduction in water consumption:
- 16% in the raw to finished leather category
- 30% in the wet blue to finished leather category
- A 40% reduction in energy requirements has also been demonstrated
