BLC water and energy saving solutions

LWG Audits Contact Us BLC Newsletter

Water and energy are two key costs in the leather manufacturing process, so any actions taken to reduce or optimise their usage are likely to have a beneficial effect on the bottom line and make companies more competitive.

In addition, as the environmental performance of tanneries becomes more important to the brands, key measurements such as water and energy consumption are becoming critical factors for sourcing decisions.

Based on an assessment of the water and energy consumption of the tannery:

Tanneries that have undergone an audit against the LWG environmental auditing protocol have shown a significant reduction in water consumption:

  • 16% in the raw to finished leather category
  • 30% in the wet blue to finished leather category
  • A 40% reduction in energy requirements has also been demonstrated

These improvements come in large part from measurement and a focus on making savings within the tanneries.

Please contact info@blcleathertech.com to see how you can make savings by reducing your water and energy usage or to discuss an audit against the LWG environmental auditing protocol.
